What Is Uniswap in Gem Wallet?

What Is Uniswap?

Uniswap is a decentralized exchange (DEX) protocol for swapping tokens on Ethereum and other EVM networks. Gem Wallet routes same-chain swaps through both Uniswap v3 and Uniswap v4 pools, so you can swap tokens directly from your wallet without depositing them on an exchange.

You don't select Uniswap yourself. When you swap, Gem Wallet compares quotes from all supported swap providers and shows Uniswap when it offers a route for your pair. The provider is shown on the swap screen before you confirm.

Supported Networks

Gem Wallet uses Uniswap for same-chain swaps on: Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Avalanche C-Chain, Linea, zkSync, Celo, Blast, World Chain, Unichain, Ink, Monad, X Layer, Stable, Robinhood Chain, Tempo, and Arc.

Both assets must be on the same network. To move assets between networks, Gem Wallet uses a cross-chain provider.

note

A pair only appears when the provider returns a live quote for it. Liquidity, amount limits, and route availability can change at any time.

Permit2 Signatures

Some Uniswap swaps use Permit2, which lets the Uniswap router spend a token through a signed permission instead of a separate approval transaction. Gem Wallet signs it together with the swap on the confirmation screen, under the same authentication. See Token Approval vs Permit Signature.

If a Uniswap Swap Fails

A Uniswap swap is a single transaction on the selected EVM network, so it either completes or fails as a whole. If it fails, the assets you were swapping stay in your wallet, but the network fee is still spent.

Common causes are a price move larger than your slippage setting, low liquidity for the pair, or not enough of the network's coin for the fee. See Why Was My Crypto Transaction Reverted? and What to Do When No Swap Quote Is Available.

Need Help With a Swap?

Contact Gem Wallet support from Settings > Support in the app, and include the transaction ID of your swap. Before you share anything, read What Information Is Safe to Give Wallet Support?.

warning

Gem Wallet support will never send you a direct message first, ask for your Secret Phrase or private key, or ask you to send funds to "fix" a swap. Anyone who does is a scammer.
