How to Find a Crypto Transaction ID

What Is a Transaction ID?​

A transaction ID is the unique identifier assigned to a blockchain transaction. It may also be called a transaction hash, transaction signature, hash, or TxID.

Use it to:

  • Check whether a transaction is pending, successful, failed, or reverted.
  • Verify the sender, recipient, asset, amount, fee, and network details.
  • Give an exchange or support team the public information needed to investigate a transfer.

Find an Existing Transaction in Gem Wallet​

  1. Open Gem Wallet.
  2. Select the asset used for the transaction.
  3. Select the transaction from the activity list.
  4. Review its Status, Network, participant, date, and network fee.
  5. Select View on explorer name at the bottom of the transaction details.

The explorer name depends on the blockchain. For example, a Bitcoin transaction can show View on Blockchair.

Gem Wallet opens the transaction directly on the explorer configured for that blockchain. This avoids searching on an explorer for the wrong network.

Copy the Transaction ID from the Explorer​

The exact explorer layout varies, but the identifier is normally labeled Transaction Hash, Transaction ID, TxID, Signature, or Hash.

  1. Find the transaction identifier on the explorer page.
  2. Use the explorer's copy control, or select and copy the complete value.
  3. Compare the first and last characters after pasting it into a message or form.

Copy the identifier itself, not the sender address, recipient address, block number, or token contract address.

Find an Incoming Transaction That Is Not in Gem Wallet​

If the expected incoming transaction does not appear in the activity list, ask the sender for the transaction ID.

For an exchange withdrawal:

  1. Open the exchange's withdrawal history.
  2. Select the completed withdrawal.
  3. Find its transaction ID or blockchain explorer link.
  4. Confirm that the explorer is for the network selected during withdrawal.

An order ID, withdrawal ID, or reference number created by an exchange is not necessarily the blockchain transaction ID.

Verify That You Have the Correct Transaction​

On the explorer, check:

  • Network — it must be the blockchain used for the transfer.
  • Status — pending, successful, failed, or reverted.
  • Recipient — it must match the intended receive address.
  • Asset and amount — for tokens, verify the token contract as well as its symbol.
  • Memo or tag — check it when the receiving service required one.

Is a Transaction ID Safe to Share?​

Yes. A transaction ID is public information on a public blockchain and is normally safe to share with the sender, recipient, exchange, or Gem Wallet support.

The transaction ID can reveal public activity associated with the transaction, including wallet addresses, assets, amounts, and timestamps. Share it only when that level of public detail is appropriate.

A transaction ID is not a recovery phrase or private key. Never share your recovery phrase or private key with anyone, including someone claiming to be support.

Information to Give Support​

When investigating a transaction, provide:

  • The complete transaction ID.
  • The blockchain network.
  • The asset and amount.
  • The approximate transaction time.
  • A description of the expected result.
