How to Select a Swap Provider in Gem Wallet
Why Can I Choose a Swap Provider?
Gem Wallet requests live quotes from integrated decentralized exchanges, aggregators, bridges, and cross-chain protocols. When more than one provider returns a valid route for the same swap, the app lets you compare the available results and select a provider.
Each provider can use different liquidity, contracts, fees, deposit addresses, routes, and estimated completion times. The highest estimated receive amount may be attractive, but it should not be the only detail you review.
The provider selector appears only when multiple valid quotes are available. A supported provider will not appear when it cannot quote the selected assets, amount, networks, and direction at that time.
Compare Providers Without Submitting a Swap
You can reproduce these steps safely and leave before confirmation:
- Open Gem Wallet and select Swap.
- Select the asset you want to pay and the asset you want to receive.
- Enter an amount that produces a quote.
- Open the swap details.
- Select the displayed Provider or choose another displayed provider, when selection is available.
- Compare the receive amounts and details for the returned providers.
- Select the provider you prefer.
- Review the updated quote, then leave the screen if you do not intend to swap.
Gem Wallet can show a limited number of provider choices directly in the details view and provide access to the available quote list. The selected provider is marked in the interface.
What Should I Compare?
Review the complete quote for each provider:

| Fiat value | An estimate based on available market-price data, not a guaranteed settlement value. |
| Rate | The quoted exchange relationship between the pay and receive assets. |
| Minimum Received | The lowest output protected by the quote's slippage conditions. |
| Price Impact | How much the trade itself may move the effective price. |
| Slippage | How much adverse execution movement the route permits. |
| Network Fee | The blockchain cost required to submit the source transaction. |
| Estimated time | A provider estimate that can vary with network and route conditions. |
| Provider and route | The protocol responsible for executing, tracking, and potentially refunding the swap. |
For a same-chain swap, compare the provider's contract route and final token amount. For a cross-chain swap, also consider the destination network, expected processing time, provider status tracking, and refund behavior.
What Happens After I Select a Provider?
Gem Wallet selects the current quote from that provider and updates the swap details. Your provider preference remains selected while quotes refresh for the same asset pair, as long as that provider continues to return a valid route.
If the selected provider disappears during a refresh, Gem Wallet can fall back to another available quote. Changing to a different asset pair clears the previous provider preference. Changing the amount or slippage requests a new quote and can change every displayed value.

Why Is Provider Selection Unavailable?
You may see only one provider or no selectable provider list when:
- Only one provider returned a valid quote.
- Other providers do not support the asset pair, direction, amount, or networks.
- Liquidity or a required route is temporarily unavailable.
- A provider is experiencing a service issue.
- Gem Wallet has started preparing the selected transfer.
Gem Wallet stops changing the in-progress quote while it prepares the transfer for confirmation. If you want to compare again, return to the swap screen and request current quotes before submitting a transaction.
Is the First Provider Always the Best Choice?
It is the currently selected available quote, but “best” depends on your priorities. One provider may estimate a larger output, while another may offer a shorter route, different fees, or a different completion estimate.
Before proceeding:
- Verify the final output rather than relying only on the rate.
- Check whether fees are included in the quote or displayed separately.
- Avoid a route with unexpectedly high price impact or slippage.
- Make sure you recognize the destination asset and network.
- Review the newest quote immediately before confirmation.
Provider quotes are estimates and can change. Selecting a provider does not lock its rate indefinitely or guarantee its estimated completion time.
If No Provider Returns a Quote
Confirm the assets and networks, try a valid larger amount if the provider reports a minimum, and check your connection. Do not repeatedly increase slippage just to force an unfamiliar or illiquid swap through.
