Sei EVM (SEI)

What is Sei EVM?

Sei EVM is the Ethereum-compatible environment on Sei. It lets users and developers use Ethereum-style addresses, smart contracts, and ERC20 tokens while staying connected to the Sei ecosystem.

Here are 5 key points about Sei EVM:

  • Sei EVM uses SEI as the native token for network fees.

  • Sei EVM uses Ethereum-style wallet addresses and supports ERC20 tokens.

  • Sei EVM support arrived with Sei V2, bringing Ethereum-style apps and tokens to the Sei network.

  • Sei EVM is useful for DeFi, swaps, payments, and other apps that already feel familiar to Ethereum users.

  • In Gem Wallet, native Sei and Sei EVM appear as separate networks so users can choose the right one for each transaction.

Sei EVM on Gem Wallet

Gem Wallet has the following features enabled for Sei EVM:

  • Store Sei EVM (SEI) securely.
  • Send and Receive Sei EVM (SEI) natively.
  • Manage supported Sei EVM ERC20 tokens.
  • Swap Sei EVM tokens directly in the app.
  • Cross-chain swap supported assets into Sei EVM.

SEI is the native gas token of Sei EVM and is used for:

  • Transaction fees: SEI pays gas for sending assets and interacting with Sei EVM.

  • Network utility: SEI is required to move assets on Sei EVM.

note

Staking is available on native Sei, not Sei EVM. If you want to stake SEI in Gem Wallet, use the native Sei network.

How to Get Sei EVM (SEI)?

Here are some ways to get Sei EVM (SEI):

  • Receive SEI with your Sei EVM address in Gem Wallet.

  • Swap supported assets into Sei EVM using Gem Wallet.

  • Bridge or withdraw SEI to Sei EVM from a supported platform.

note

Send only Sei EVM network assets to your Sei EVM address. Native Sei and Sei EVM are separate networks in Gem Wallet.

What Tokens are Supported on Sei EVM?

Sei EVM supports ERC20 tokens in Gem Wallet.

  • SEI is supported as the native Sei EVM asset.

  • Supported ERC20 tokens can be enabled from Manage Tokens.

  • If a Sei EVM token does not appear in Gem Wallet, it is not supported yet in the app.

note

Do not send unsupported Sei EVM tokens unless they appear in Gem Wallet. Unsupported tokens may not display in your wallet.

Can I Swap Sei EVM Assets on Gem Wallet?

Yes. Gem Wallet supports swaps for Sei EVM network assets:

  • Swap Sei EVM (SEI) for supported Sei EVM ERC20 tokens, and swap supported Sei EVM ERC20 tokens back to SEI.

  • Use Cross-Chain Swap to swap supported assets from other blockchains into Sei EVM.

note

You need enough SEI on Sei EVM to pay network fees when swapping on the Sei EVM network.

Transaction Fees on Sei EVM

The fees on Sei EVM are summarized as follows:

  • Sei EVM transactions require network fees paid in SEI.

  • You need enough SEI before sending Sei EVM assets.

  • Sei EVM fees are paid on the EVM network, not on native Sei.

How to Check Sei EVM (SEI) Balance?

Gem Wallet connects to Sei EVM to show the SEI balance in your wallet. Tap on the 3 dots at the upper right corner, then tap View address on Seiscan.

tip

Seiscan is the default Sei EVM explorer of Gem Wallet. You can manually check balances and transactions by going to Seiscan and searching for your Sei EVM address.

Why Choose Gem Wallet for Sei EVM?

  • Self-Custody & Security: Gem Wallet gives you full control over your private keys and assets.

  • EVM Compatibility: Sei EVM uses Ethereum-style addresses and supports ERC20 tokens, making it familiar for users who already use EVM networks.

  • Swap and Cross-Chain Support: Gem Wallet supports Sei EVM token swaps and cross-chain swaps into supported Sei EVM assets.

  • Clear Network Separation: Gem Wallet separates native Sei and Sei EVM so users can choose the right network for staking, ERC20 tokens, swaps, and transfers.

Conclusion

Sei EVM brings Ethereum-compatible wallets, smart contracts, and ERC20 tokens to the Sei ecosystem. In Gem Wallet, users can store, send, receive, and swap supported Sei EVM assets, while native Sei remains the network used for SEI staking.
