Scan QR Codes and Payment Links in Gem Wallet
Where to Scan in Gem Walletâ
Tap the Scan icon in the top-left corner of the wallet screen. The scanner can send, pay, or connect to a dApp from one code, so you don't need to open an asset first.
You can also:
- Tap the scan button on the Recipient screen while sending an asset.
- Pick a QR code image from your photos instead of using the camera.
Whatever you scan, Gem Wallet always shows the confirmation screen with the asset, amount, recipient, network, and network fee before anything is signed.
Supported Codesâ
| Code | Example | What Gem Wallet reads |
|---|---|---|
| Plain address | bc1q..., 0x1f90... | The recipient address |
| Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Dash, and Zcash payment codes | bitcoin:bc1q...?amount=0.0001 | Address, amount, memo, and label |
| XRP with a destination tag | ripple:rEb8...?amount=10&dt=12345 | Address, amount, and destination tag |
| Ethereum coin and token transfers | ethereum:0xA0b8...@1/transfer?address=0x1f90...&uint256=1500000 | Network, token, recipient, and amount |
| Solana Pay | solana:HA4h...?amount=1&spl-token=EPjF... | Address, amount, SPL token, memo, and label, or a merchant's Solana Pay transaction |
| TON transfer with a comment | ton://transfer/UQA5...?amount=1000000000&text=order+7 | Address, amount, and comment |
| WalletConnect Pay | A merchant checkout QR code | A merchant payment. See How to Pay a Merchant with WalletConnect Pay. |
| WalletConnect connection | A dApp's WalletConnect QR code | A dApp connection request. See the WalletConnect Guide. |
What Opens After You Scanâ
Gem Wallet only asks for what the code is missing:
| When the code contains | What opens |
|---|---|
| The asset, the amount, and any required memo or tag | The confirmation screen, ready to review |
| An address without an amount | The amount screen |
| An address that matches several networks, such as an EVM address | A list to pick the asset to send, then the next screen |
| An address for a network that needs a memo or tag, without one | The Recipient screen, so you can add it |
| An address that is not valid for the selected asset | The Recipient screen |
| An amount with more decimals than the asset supports | The amount screen with an empty amount |
| A WalletConnect Pay link | The merchant Payment review |
| A WalletConnect connection code | The dApp connection request |
Gem Wallet never rounds a scanned amount. If the amount in the code is more precise than the asset allows, it is dropped and you type the amount yourself.
Scanned amounts are shown in your device's number format. For example, 0.001 from a QR code appears as 0,001 if your device uses a comma as the decimal separator. The value is the same.
A plain EVM address, such as 0x..., is the same on every EVM network. When Gem Wallet asks you to pick an asset, choose the network the recipient told you to use. Sending on the wrong network can make funds hard to recover. See How to Select the Correct Network When Receiving Crypto.
Messages You May Seeâ
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not supported | The QR code is not an address, payment code, or link that Gem Wallet can read. |
| A reason the code cannot open | Gem Wallet read the code but cannot use it. For example, the wallet has no account on that network, or a payment link has expired or failed. |
Check Before You Confirmâ
- Compare the first and last characters of the recipient address with the address you expected. See What Is an Address-Poisoning Scam?.
- For XRP, TON, and other networks that use one, check that the memo, tag, or comment matches what the recipient gave you.
- Check that the amount and network match the payment request.
- Only scan codes from a source you trust. A QR code can carry any address.
