Can I Use the Same Wallet on More Than One Device?

Yes, With Your Secret Phrase

You can use the same wallet on as many phones or tablets as you like. Gem Wallet has no account and no cloud sync: your Secret Phrase never leaves your device. To use a wallet on another device, import its Secret Phrase there.

  1. Install Gem Wallet on the second device from the official app store or gemwallet.com.
  2. Select Import an Existing Wallet.
  3. Choose Multi-Coin and enter the same Secret Phrase.

See Restore Gem Wallet for the full steps. For a wallet imported with a private key, import the same private key instead. See What Is a Private Key?.

What's the Same on Both Devices

Everything that lives on the blockchain is shared, because both devices control the same addresses:

  • Your balances and tokens.
  • Your transaction history in Activity.
  • Your NFTs and staking positions.
  • Your perpetual positions on Hyperliquid.

A transaction sent from one device appears on the other once the network confirms it.

What Stays on Each Device

App settings and local data aren't synced between devices, so you set them up on each one:

  • Wallet names, avatars, and pinned wallets.
  • Contacts you've saved.
  • Enabled tokens and networks, and hidden assets.
  • App lock, currency, language, and notification settings.
  • Price alerts and push notifications.
  • WalletConnect connections to dApps.

Moving to a New Phone

  1. Before you switch, make sure you have your Secret Phrase written down and check it's correct.
  2. Install Gem Wallet on the new phone and import the Secret Phrase.
  3. Check that your balances appear, then delete the wallet from the old phone before you sell or give it away, or reset the phone.
warning

Backing up or restoring your phone with iCloud, Google, or a migration tool doesn't reliably move your wallet. Always keep your Secret Phrase. Without it, a wallet can't be restored on a new device, and Gem Wallet can't recover it for you.

Is It Safe to Have One Wallet on Two Devices?

It's safe if both devices are yours and protected. Each extra device is another place your wallet can be accessed, so:

  • Turn on the app lock on every device.
  • Remove the wallet from devices you no longer use.
  • Never import your Secret Phrase on a device you don't control, or into any website or app other than an official wallet.
