What Is the Gem Wallet Beta and How Do I Join?

The Gem Wallet beta program gives users early access to builds so they can try upcoming changes and help improve the app before those changes reach the stable release.

The public beta is intended to make testing accessible to both iOS and Android users. Android beta access was previously invite-only; Android users can now download current builds publicly without requesting an invitation.

Always begin at the official Gem Wallet Beta page for either platform. It links iOS users to TestFlight and Android users directly to the official gemwalletcom/wallet GitHub Releases page. Using this page as the starting point helps avoid unofficial invitations, APK mirrors, and look-alike repositories.

Choose Your Platform​

Beta software may contain unfinished features, crashes, or other unexpected behavior. Make sure every Secret Phrase is backed up correctly before installing a beta, and do not use funds you cannot afford to place at risk while testing.

Who Can Join the Public Beta?​

Any user can access the public beta while a compatible build is available. iOS participation depends on TestFlight enrollment and tester capacity; Android builds are published as release downloads without enrollment.

  • iOS: Gem Wallet uses Apple's TestFlight program.
  • Android: Follow the Android link on the Gem Wallet Beta page to the public GitHub Releases page. No private invitation is required.

Platform availability and device or operating-system requirements can change. TestFlight can also limit iOS tester capacity.

Before Installing a Beta​

  1. Back up every Gem Wallet Secret Phrase you may need to restore.
  2. Verify the backup words in the correct order.
  3. Start at gemwallet.com/beta/ and confirm that any Android redirect opens github.com/gemwalletcom/wallet/releases rather than a look-alike website or repository.
  4. Read the platform's testing notice and device requirements.
  5. Make sure you understand how to reinstall the stable app if needed.

Your crypto remains on its blockchain rather than inside the app, but access depends on the corresponding Secret Phrase or private key. Never rely on one app installation as the only copy of your wallet access information.

Never enter your Secret Phrase into a beta website, invitation form, email, support message, or app-store enrollment page. Enter it only inside the verified Gem Wallet app when you intentionally restore a wallet.

How to Join on iOS​

  1. Open the Gem Wallet Beta page on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Install TestFlight from the App Store if it is not already installed.
  3. Select Join TestFlight Beta.
  4. When TestFlight opens the Gem Wallet invitation, select Accept.
  5. Select Install to download the available beta build.
  6. Open Gem Wallet and verify that your expected wallets and addresses are present before making a transaction.

If you already joined, TestFlight may display Update or Open instead of Accept.

Under Apple's current TestFlight requirements, iOS and iPadOS beta apps require iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 or later. The invitation determines whether a compatible Gem Wallet build is available for the device.

How to Join on Android​

Android beta access does not require private enrollment. The Gem Wallet Beta page links to the public APK releases:

  1. Open the Gem Wallet Beta page on your Android device.
  2. Select the Android beta download option.
  3. Confirm that the link opens https://github.com/gemwalletcom/wallet/releases.
  4. Select the newest release at the top of the page.
  5. Expand Assets if the attached files are not visible.
  6. Download the file named gem_wallet_universal_<version>.apk, where <version> matches that release.
  7. When Android prompts you, allow installation from the browser or file manager you used to download the APK.
  8. Open the downloaded APK and review the Android installation prompt before selecting Install or Update.
  9. Open Gem Wallet and verify your expected wallets and addresses before making a transaction.

The release can also contain .aab, .ipa, source-code archives, or other APK variants. For a normal direct Android installation, use the universal APK, not the .aab or .ipa file.

Start from gemwallet.com/beta/ and install only an APK attached to a release in the gemwalletcom/wallet repository. Do not install files sent through direct messages, unofficial mirrors, shortened links, or look-alike GitHub repositories.

Will the Beta Replace the Stable App?​

On iOS, Apple states that installing a TestFlight version replaces the App Store version installed on the device. An orange dot next to the app name identifies it as a beta.

On Android, installing the official universal APK may update an existing compatible Gem Wallet installation. Android displays an installation prompt and can reject a package that is incompatible or signed differently. You must still maintain an independent Secret Phrase backup in case the app must be reinstalled or its data is lost.

How Long Does a Beta Build Work?​

Apple makes each TestFlight build available for up to 90 days from the date it was uploaded. TestFlight displays the remaining period and can install newer builds automatically.

Android releases remain listed on GitHub unless the project removes them. Check the Releases page for a newer version rather than assuming an older downloaded APK is current.

How Do I Send Beta Feedback?​

Include enough detail to reproduce the problem:

  • Device model and operating-system version.
  • Gem Wallet beta version.
  • The blockchain, asset, and feature involved.
  • What you expected to happen.
  • What happened instead.
  • The exact steps that reproduce the issue.
  • The exact error message, if one appeared.

On iOS, open TestFlight, select Gem Wallet, and choose Send Beta Feedback. TestFlight can also offer to share crash details after a crash.

On Android, use Gem Wallet's in-app support channel. For a reproducible software issue, you can also review the repository's contribution options without publishing wallet secrets or personal information.

Attach screenshots only after confirming that they contain no Secret Phrase, private key, personal payment information, or authentication code. A public wallet address or transaction ID can help investigate a blockchain issue, but your Secret Phrase is never required.

How Do I Leave the Beta?​

iOS​

  1. Open TestFlight and select Gem Wallet.
  2. Open the app information page and select Stop Testing.
  3. Delete the beta app if needed.
  4. Install the stable Gem Wallet version from the App Store.
  5. Restore your wallet only if necessary, using your verified backup inside the official app.

Android​

There is no Android enrollment to leave. To stop using GitHub release builds:

  1. Stop manually installing APK updates from GitHub Releases.
  2. Install the stable Gem Wallet release from your preferred official distribution channel when it offers the same or a newer compatible version.
  3. If Android requires the app to be removed first, verify your Secret Phrase backup before uninstalling.
  4. Restore your wallet only if necessary, using your verified backup inside the official app.

Leaving the beta does not move or delete blockchain assets. Keep your Secret Phrase backup after returning to the stable version.
