How Do Price Alerts Work in Gem Wallet?
What Are Price Alerts?â
Price alerts send a push notification when the price of a coin or token you follow moves. Gem Wallet offers two kinds:
- Automatic alerts: notify you about significant price changes for every asset in your Price Alerts list, including when the price crosses a round number.
- Target alerts: notify you once when the price reaches a level you set, such as over $70,000 or decreases by 10%.
Price alerts are separate from transaction notifications, which report activity in your wallet. See How Do Transaction Push Notifications Work?.
Turn On Price Alertsâ
- Open Settings > Notifications > Price Alerts.
- Turn on Price Alerts.
- Allow notifications when your device asks.
- Add the assets you want to follow.
Each asset you add gets an automatic alert. Its screen shows whether alerts are on for it.
Price alerts are sent as push notifications, so they only work while notifications are allowed for Gem Wallet. If you refuse the notification prompt, Gem Wallet doesn't save the alert.
Set a Target Price Alertâ
- Open the asset in Gem Wallet.
- Open its Price Alerts screen.
- Choose a condition:
- When price is over or When price is under a price you enter.
- When price increases by or When price decreases by a percentage.
- Enter the value and select Set target price.
Gem Wallet confirms the alert, for example Alert added for price over $70,000. The direction follows the value you enter compared with the current price: a price above the current one becomes Over, and a price below it becomes Under.
The asset's Price Alerts screen shows the automatic alert as a switch with the current price, and your targets under Active.
When Price Alerts Fireâ
| Alert | When it fires | After it fires |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic | On significant price moves, and when the price crosses a round number | Stays on for the asset |
| Target | Once, when the price reaches your target | Removed from the list |
Round-number alerts are counted in the currency you chose in Settings > Preferences > Currency, and the notification shows the round number and the current price in that currency.
If You Don't Receive Price Alertsâ
Work through these checks in order:
- Notifications are allowed. Check Settings > Notifications in Gem Wallet, and allow notifications for Gem Wallet in your device's settings. Also check Focus or Do Not Disturb modes.
- Price Alerts is on. Open Settings > Notifications > Price Alerts and confirm the switch is on and the asset is in your list.
- The target hasn't already fired. A target alert fires once and is then removed. Set it again if you still want it.
- Your app is up to date. In older versions, adding an alert while Price Alerts was on but notifications were off could show a confirmation for an alert that was never sent. Gem Wallet now asks for notification permission first. Update to the latest version, then add the alert again.
- Your build supports push notifications. The F-Droid and Huawei builds of Gem Wallet for Android can't receive push notifications, so they don't offer price alerts.
If you turned price alerts off while offline, Gem Wallet keeps your choice and sends it to the server on its next sync. You may get an alert in the meantime.
