Why Is a Token's Value Missing or Not in My Total?
Why a Token Shows No Valueâ
Each row on your wallet screen shows the token's balance and, when Gem Wallet knows its price, its value. If a token has no value, Gem Wallet doesn't have a price for it.
Gem Wallet gets prices from market data providers, such as CoinGecko. A token has no price when:
- It's new or small and not listed by those providers yet.
- It's not actively traded, or its market has been delisted or abandoned.
- It's a custom token you added by contract address, or an unverified airdrop.
- It's on a network where price data isn't available for that token.
Your balance is still correct, and you can still send the token. Only the value is missing. If a token you expect to have a value shows none, check its network and contract first. See How to Identify the Correct Stablecoin Network and Contract.
What Counts Toward Your Wallet Totalâ
The total at the top of the wallet screen adds up the value of:
- Every asset you keep visible on the wallet screen. Hidden assets aren't counted.
- Assets that have a price. A token without a price adds nothing.
- Your Perpetuals balance, including margin in open positions, counted once.
It leaves out tokens that Gem Wallet's asset data marks as spam, fraudulent, abandoned, suspended, migrated, deprecated, or inactive, even if they show a price somewhere. So a worthless airdrop can't inflate your total.
The 24-hour change next to the total uses the same assets.
How Gem Wallet Handles Fake or Unrealistic Pricesâ
Scam tokens often claim a huge value to lure you into selling them on a malicious site or approving a harmful contract. Gem Wallet protects you in a few ways:
- Spam and fraudulent tokens aren't counted in your total, as described above.
- Token status: tokens that haven't been verified by trusted third-party sources show as Unverified, and Gem Wallet warns you before you add one. See How to Add a Token or Custom Token on Gem Wallet.
- Activity stays clean: the Activity tab leaves out transactions of tokens Gem Wallet doesn't recognize. See How to Read and Filter Activity in Gem Wallet.
- Swaps use live quotes, not the displayed price. What you receive comes from the provider's quote, and Gem Wallet asks you to confirm again when the price impact is very high. A token with a big "value" but no real market gets no quote, or a very poor one.
If a token you never bought shows up with a large value, don't try to sell it, swap it, or visit a website it points to. Hide it from your wallet. A real valuable token rarely arrives unasked.
How to Hide a Tokenâ
Open the token and choose Hide, or turn it off in the list of tokens you manage from the wallet screen. A hidden token isn't counted in your total and doesn't show on your wallet screen. Its balance stays on the blockchain, and you can turn it back on at any time.
