What Do Cross-Chain Swap Statuses Mean?

How Gem Wallet Tracks a Cross-Chain Swap

A cross-chain swap has a source transaction and a separate provider process that delivers assets on the destination network. Because those steps happen on different systems, the source transaction can be confirmed before the complete swap is finished.

Gem Wallet tracks the source network first. After the source transaction is confirmed, the wallet continues checking the swap provider until the provider reports a final result.

What Each Status Means

StatusMeaningWhat to do
PendingThe source transaction has been submitted but is not yet confirmed on its blockchain.Wait for the source network to confirm it.
In TransitThe source transaction is confirmed and the swap provider is processing the route or destination transfer.Keep the app updated and allow the provider and destination network time to finish.
Successful or ConfirmedThe provider reports that the swap completed.Check the destination asset and network in the receiving wallet.
FailedThe source transaction or swap could not complete.Open the details and check the source transaction and provider status before trying again.
RevertedThe source network rejected or reversed the transaction execution.Review the transaction on the source explorer. A network fee may still have been charged.
RefundedThe provider returned assets instead of completing the destination transfer.Verify the refund asset, address, amount, and return transaction in the provider details.

The wording visible in the app can depend on the transaction type and platform version. Pending and In Transit are not final states; Gem Wallet continues tracking them until the network or provider returns a final result.

Why Is My Swap In Transit After the Source Transaction Succeeded?

A successful source transaction confirms only that the provider received or can process the deposit. The provider may still need to:

  • Detect and validate the deposit.
  • Wait for additional source-network confirmations.
  • Execute the swap or bridge route.
  • Submit the destination transaction.
  • Wait for the destination network to confirm it.

Processing time varies by provider, route, liquidity, and both networks. Do not submit the same swap again solely because the first one is still In Transit.

How to Check the Current Status

  1. Open Gem Wallet.
  2. Select the wallet used for the swap.
  3. Open Activity.
  4. Select the swap transaction.
  5. Review its status, source and destination assets, provider, transaction details, and available explorer links.
  6. If necessary, check the source transaction and the provider's transaction page using the public transaction ID.

A swap appears in Activity for both the asset paid and the asset received when the wallet has the complete route information. The details can also provide Swap Again after the transaction is available in Activity.

For provider explorer links, see What are Cross-Chain Swaps?.

What If the Status Does Not Change?

First confirm that the source transaction exists and is confirmed on the correct blockchain explorer. Then check the provider's status page with the source transaction ID, deposit address, or wallet address, depending on what that provider supports.

If the source transaction is still unconfirmed, follow Why Is My Transaction Pending?. If the source is confirmed but the swap remains incomplete, follow the cross-chain section in Swap Troubleshooting.

For a refund, use What Does a Refunded Cross-Chain Swap Mean?. Never share your recovery phrase or private key with a provider, explorer, or support agent.
