Why Is a Website Asking Me to "Validate" or "Sync" My Wallet?
Short Answer: It's a Scamâ
Your wallet never needs to be validated, synced, rectified, migrated, whitelisted, or unlocked by a website. Gem Wallet syncs your balances by itself, straight from the blockchain. There's nothing to fix from outside the app.
Any website, message, or "support agent" that asks you to do this is trying to get one of two things:
- Your Secret Phrase or private key, typed into a form. With it, they can take everything in your wallet.
- A signature or approval from your wallet, which lets them move your tokens.
How the Scam Usually Worksâ
- You get a reason to worry. A failed transaction, a missing balance, a "wallet out of sync" message, or an airdrop you can't claim.
- Someone offers to help. You find a "wallet fix" site in search ads, or someone replies to your post on X, Telegram, Discord, or a forum and sends you a link.
- The site looks official. It has wallet logos, words like "DApp Rectification" or "Wallet Validation," and a button to connect your wallet.
- It asks for your Secret Phrase, often after the "connection" fails on purpose. Or it asks you to sign or approve something to finish the "sync."
- Your funds are drained, often minutes later.
Words That Should Stop Youâ
If a site or message uses any of these, close it:
- Validate, synchronize, sync, rectify, or migrate your wallet
- Fix a "wallet error," "node error," or "stuck transaction"
- Unlock, reactivate, or whitelist your wallet
- "Import your wallet to continue"
- Pay a small fee to release your funds
- Connect your wallet to "claim" or "verify" eligibility
What Gem Wallet Never Doesâ
- Gem Wallet never asks for your Secret Phrase or private key, in the app, by email, or in chat.
- Gem Wallet never asks you to validate or sync your wallet on a website.
- Gem Wallet support never messages you first on social media or Telegram.
- Gem Wallet never asks for a fee to unlock or release your funds.
For real help, use Settings > Support inside the app. See What Information Is Safe to Give Wallet Support? and How to Verify Official Gem Wallet Links.
If Something Really Looks Wrong in the Appâ
The real fixes are always inside Gem Wallet, never on another site:
- A balance looks wrong: Why Is My Crypto Balance Incorrect?
- A transaction is stuck: Why Is My Crypto Transaction Pending?
- Something arrived but doesn't show: Crypto Transaction Confirmed but Not Received
- An airdrop you can't claim: What Is an Airdrop, and How Do I Spot a Fake One?
How Gem Wallet Helps Protect Youâ
- When you connect to a website, Gem Wallet shows whether its domain is verified, and blocks requests from sites flagged as malicious. See WalletConnect Domain Verification in Gem Wallet.
- Before you sign, Gem Wallet shows what a request does and warns about risky approvals. See How to Review a WalletConnect Signature Request.
These checks can't protect a Secret Phrase you type into a website. Only you can do that.
What to Do If You Already Entered Your Secret Phraseâ
Act now. Anyone with your Secret Phrase can take your funds at any time.
- Create a new wallet in Gem Wallet and back up its new Secret Phrase.
- Move everything from the exposed wallet to the new one, starting with the most valuable assets.
- Stop using the exposed wallet.
