Why Does My Swap Quote Change?

Why Can a Swap Quote Change?

A swap quote is a live estimate, not a fixed exchange rate. It reflects the routes available from Gem Wallet's integrated swap providers for the selected assets, amount, networks, and slippage setting.

The quote can change before you confirm because:

  • Asset prices and liquidity pool balances move continuously.
  • Another trade changes the available liquidity or route.
  • Network and provider fees change.
  • A provider becomes available or unavailable.
  • A different route offers a more competitive result.
  • You change the pay amount, asset pair, provider, or slippage setting.

Gem Wallet requests fresh quotes while the active swap screen is open. The current wallet implementation refreshes them approximately every 30 seconds, so the estimated receive amount, exchange rate, provider, fee, or route can update even when you have not edited the swap.

What Does Gem Wallet Refresh?

For each current quote, Gem Wallet can display:

  • The selected provider.
  • The estimated amount you receive.
  • The exchange rate.
  • The estimated completion time, when supplied by the provider.
  • Price impact, when price information is available.
  • The minimum received amount.
  • Slippage.

When more than one provider returns a route, you can review the available provider choices. If a provider you selected no longer returns a valid route after a refresh, Gem Wallet can fall back to another available quote.

Check a Quote Without Submitting a Swap

You can safely observe quote updates without creating a transaction:

  1. Open Gem Wallet and select Swap.
  2. Select the asset you want to pay and the asset you want to receive.
  3. Enter an amount that produces a quote.
  4. Record the provider, rate, estimated receive amount, minimum received, slippage, and fees.
  5. Keep the active swap screen open until it refreshes, or change the amount slightly.
  6. Compare the new details with the values you recorded.
  7. Leave the screen without selecting Swap if you do not intend to proceed.

Only the current valid quote can be selected for the next step. Once Gem Wallet starts preparing the transfer, it stops replacing that in-progress quote with later quote results.

Why Did the Provider Change?

Provider availability depends on the asset pair, direction, amount, networks, liquidity, and provider service status. A provider may return a route for one refresh and none for the next.

If your previously selected provider disappears, review the replacement quote from the beginning. Different providers can use different contracts, deposit addresses, fees, estimated times, and refund processes.

Why Did the Estimated Receive Amount Change?

The receive amount is calculated from the provider's current route. It can move when the market price, liquidity, route fees, or provider changes.

Do not compare only the headline receive amount. Also review:

  • Rate — the current quoted exchange rate.
  • Price Impact — the effect of your trade size on the quoted market price.
  • Minimum Received — the lowest output protected by the displayed slippage tolerance.
  • Network Fee — the estimated blockchain cost.
  • Provider — the protocol responsible for executing the route.

Learn how the protected output is calculated in What Does Minimum Received Mean in a Swap?.

What If the New Quote Is Worse?

You do not have to proceed. You can:

  • Wait and request a fresh quote later.
  • Compare another available provider.
  • Reduce the swap amount if price impact is high.
  • Choose a more liquid asset pair.
  • Review the slippage setting without increasing it automatically.

A higher slippage tolerance does not guarantee a better rate. It allows a larger adverse movement before the swap is rejected and can lower the minimum amount protected by the transaction.

caution

Always review the latest details immediately before confirmation. Screenshots, earlier estimates, and quotes from another service do not guarantee the amount Gem Wallet can execute now.

What If No Updated Quote Appears?

Confirm that the device has a stable internet connection and that the selected pair is supported. Try a different valid amount or return later if liquidity or a provider is temporarily unavailable.
